The Gifts of Just Tri

mentality performance Jun 20, 2022

Hello Just Tri babes!

If you're reading this, welcome to the Just Tri Performance blog. The title of the series is "The Gifts of Just Tri". The blog is a space where I hope to contribute to expanding and shaping your unique membership. You'll receive weekly blog nuggets of wisdom and guidance related to sports performance, specifically female athletes in sport. I anticipate the Just Tri Performance platform to naturally transform through the membership's maturation so you can expect the same thing here too :)

Any and all feedback is encouraged and welcomed. I'm here to serve you and grow with you on this journey... Ready to go!?

As alluded to earlier, this blog will be filled with powerful topics related to female athletes such as menstrual cycle syncing, hydration needs, the differences between training and performance, the importance of strength training, and sports psychology. I will branch out into self-compassion, leadership, acceptance, and gratitude, as well. I believe sports should be approached holistically and the blog will reinforce this stance. I am not the first to write on these topics, however, might be the first to explain how these subjects work individually and collectively for females in sport from a female athlete perspective.

As a female athlete, I cannot tell you how many times I was tempted to give up on my dream of playing college soccer. The level of discipline and focus, and the amount of dedicated time was extremely difficult to manage on top of my academic and social obligations.

To put a small amount of perspective on that, I had the privilege of growing up on Hilton Head Island, SC. A Lowcountry island that was far from a booming metropolis for female sports, like soccer. I played almost every sport growing up but my true love was soccer. As I was transitioning from middle school to high school, I made soccer my top priority. So during my freshman and sophomore years of high school, in order to play more competitive soccer, I commuted to Savannah, GA (about a 75min drive) for practice 2-3 times a week. Then I made it on to a regional team my junior and senior years where I commuted to Charleston, SC (2 hours and 10 minutes) for practice 2-3 times a week. The travel time commitment alone was very taxing on me and my family. On several occasions, the last thing I wanted to do after a long day at school was to travel a couple hours to soccer practice. But the one thing that kept me focused and motivated, and tailored my daily routines was my objective... to become a NCAA Division I college soccer player.

Now I know why. My past experiences - professionally and personally - have prepared me for this work... leading the Just Tri community. The community is about being real and having honest conversations about what gets in the way of being great! Because until you look inward, you'll never be able to put what you learn into practice in your daily life.

This all sounds awesome, right!? But in order for you to benefit the most from the Just Tri Performance platform, you need to address that fact that there will be times you'll be vulnerable, maybe even feel judged or compelled to do what other people think. Remember, joining this movement is about you. It'll require you to let go of what other people think and say about you... and yes, that's scary. Humans naturally seek social connections to fit in, but you should want to stand out!

In order to do that, you'll need to set boundaries. You'll need to say no to things that don't align with your mission and vision. You must accept that this journey will be hard and lonely. But I have to ask, are you willing to put yourself first? Are you going to stand up to the never good enough and who do you think you are? The comfort zone is the most dangerous place to be - a place you'll never change. You must face your fears in order to reach your full potential.

Only when you are brave enough to explore the unknown, will you discover the infinite power of your own abilities.

Thank you for reading :) Hope y'all have the best start to your week! Get after it! And remember to always, Just Tri!!

Best,

Lindsay
