Coaches Corner: Keep the Conversation Going

Hey Just Tri Tribe!

If you're reading this blog post, you've probably had a sport coach or two in your lifetime. Growing up, I was fortunate, for the most part, to have good coaches. "Good coaching" makes the sport enjoyable, helps players develop their technical and tactical skills, and creates playing environments where the players have the best chance to succeed. Great coaches know and love the sport and are comfortable with and enjoy being around their players. And because of the natural structure of youth sports, coaches spend a lot of time with their athletes and will have a lasting impact on their sport development and life.

Here at Just Tri Performance, we believe in the importance of quality coaching, so we also believe in the importance of coach education. Coaches use their experience and knowledge to guide athletes on an effective development pathway. If coaches don't routinely expose themselves to other techniques, other coaches, different experiences, etc. then their effectiveness and scope are limited, ultimately stunting their athletes' long-term development. Being open-minded to and pursuing formal sport coach education speaks volumes about a coach's priorities and values. Coach education shifts the focus from the coach and places it on the athletes.

With that said, I am excited to announce that Just Tri Performance is kicking off it's first coach education and coaching community called the Coaches Corner this month. The Coaches Corner is a virtual meeting space dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment for coaches to learn about the unique challenges, needs, and physiological realities of youth female athletes who are looking to improve their health and performance.

The Coaches Corner idea was launched after chatting with a dear friend and colleague of mine, saying that we both wish we could connect more with fellow like-minded coaches within and outside our sporting disciplines. This summer, we completed our USSF A-Youth licenses and admittedly we both missed the weekly calls and discussions around soccer, athlete development, etc. so the Just Tri Performance Coaches Corner was born.

"When I'm immersed in a quality coach education course, I'm surrounded by passionate instructors and fellow coaches who all share a love for the game and value coach education. You witness an eagerness in your peers to improve in all areas of coaching and that feeling is contagious. These courses always leave me motivated and ready to act."

And this is exactly why the Just Tri Performance Coaches Corners will be some meaningful. The center of our discussions will be the youth female athlete. Founded in research and guided by best practices, coaches will begin to understand the stages of puberty, the gender gap in youth sports, and the reproductive female's physiological changes (i.e. the menstrual cycle). With this knowledge, coaches will be empowered to take action to support their female athletes' unique physical, emotional, and mental needs.

If you're interested in attending the Coaches Corner virtual meet ups, email Lindsay at [email protected]. We'll meet once a month for an hour.

Can't wait to get started!

Have a great week, get some movement in, and as always, Just Tri!!

Yours in Sport,

Lindsay
